And Now
In 2007 Corus Narrow Strip celebrated it's golden anniversary.
The basic layout of the Hot Mill has changed very little in those 50 years but developments in all areas make Brinsworth a remarkably different business.
The size range and coil size have increased and the product range has grown too. During the late 1960s the development of High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) steels called Hypress proved successful. We continued to develop unique grades to meet customers specific requirements during the next 20 years, in grades such as boron, carbon manganese and chrome molybdenum.
Product quality is of the utmost importance to Narrow Strip and developments have been geared to meeting the ever-changing demands of our customers. However not all improvements are aimed at product quality, others have been more in line with our environmental responsibility. For example, the river water used to control the cooling rate, and therefore mechanical properties, of our material is treated to such an extent that it goes back into the River Don cleaner than when taken out.
In the last 10 years plant developments have ensured Brinsworth is still one of the leading Hot Rolled Narrow Strip producers in the world and further advances taking place will secure it's place in the future.
